A British journalist was sent to America to attend a joke convention. At the convention were hundreds of joke writers who were all seated in a huge auditorium. The journalist sat beside the host of the convention as proceedings began. One of the writers stood up and shouted “30” and everyone in the room roared with laughter. Another stood up and shouted “4” which was followed again by laughter across the auditorium. By the time the third writer had shouted “89”, the journalist was confused.
He leaned over to the host and said: “what kind of bingo game is this?”
The host replied: “Oh sorry, I forgot to explain, it’s called ‘Joke Bingo’! Here at the joke convention, we save time telling the jokes because the writers know every joke in the world! That’s why we assigned a number to every joke! Now, all we need to do is say the number and everyone laughs their head off as if they’d heard the full joke. It’s an excellent time saving device”
As the host is explaining, the number 90 is called and one man collapses in fits of laughter and continues as further numbers are called.
The journalist says to the host – “what’s the matter with him?” and the host replies: “Oh, I guess he’s never heard that joke before!”
